Dawn Welch

Growing up in Oklahoma, Dawn Welch learned the value of a dollar.  As a child, her family’s electricity was turned off and she realized that even basic necessities like electricity have costs associated with them. This lesson has served her well as the renowned business owner  of the historic Rock Cafe on the Mother Road for over twenty years! Over the years, Dawn has done extensive research on the cafe and its previous owners, discovering that women have been key to its longevity. This has inspired her through some very hard times.  The Cafe was struck by a Tornado in 1999 and endured a fire in 2008. Either one of these events would have made most people call it quits, but Dawn wouldn’t let them defeat her.  With the help of the National Park Service, the National Trust, volunteers and her kids she has rebuilt her business twice.
