Connie Echols

Connie Echols in the current owner of the historic Wagon Wheel Motel on Route 66 in Cuba, MO. She carries on a tradition of female entrepreneurship which started in 1935 with Margaret Martin who was part of a husband and wife team.  Margaret and her husband built the motel and a cafe in a Tudor Revival style.  The beautiful stone masonry that they employed is the main reason that the Wagon Wheel has stood the test of time.  It drew Connie to the property seventy-five years later, before she knew anything about Route 66. Today, however, as interest in the Mother Road grows, Connie’s clientele comes from all over the Nation and the World.  It’s her customers that keep her going.  Most recently, she gave someone a free night because it was their thirteenth stay at the motel!
