Author and photographer Candacy Taylor spoke to us recently at Clifton’s in downtown Los Angeles at the original western end point of the Mother Road. Candacy’s “Negro Motorists Green Book” project is uncovering new details and information about a guide for African American travelers that was published from 1936-1966 and listed locations where they could be assured of safe and good service, something that in a segregated country was not the norm. Candacy stumbled upon her first Green Book at the Autry’s Route 66 exhibit in 2014 and was instantly intrigued.  Since then she has been visiting Green Book properties across the country, documenting those that remain and uncovering as many details as she can about them.
